According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in September this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased by 0.3 percent compared to August and fell by 0.2 percent compared to the same month of 2015. In August, production diminished 0.6 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in September decreased by 0.9 percent month on month and moved up by 1.8 percent year on year. In August, production had risen by 0.1 percent compared to July, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in September decreased by 0.7 percent month on month and was up 0.2 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 1.8 percent from August and was down by 1.6 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction decreased by 1.1 percent month on month and was up 1.3 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region grew by 0.4 percent month on month and by 3.7 percent year on year.
As compared to September 2015, construction output in September this year increased by 7.8 percent in the Netherlands, by 6.1 percent in Sweden and by 3.9 percent in Spain, while a decrease of 17.9 percent was registered in Slovakia, a decline of 16.1 percent was seen in Poland and a fall of 13.2 percent was recorded in Hungary.
As compared to August, construction output in September this year decreased by 3.9 percent in Italy, by 3.1 percent in Slovakia and by 2.2 percent in Portugal, while construction output increased by four percent in Slovenia, by 3.3 percent in Poland and by 3.1 percent in Sweden.
