Euro area annual inflation up to 0.4 percent in October

Annual inflation in the euro area was 0.4 percent in October this year, up from 0.3 percent in September, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In October 2013, the annual inflation rate was 0.7 percent.

Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation was 0.5 percent in October, up from 0.4 percent in September. In October 2013, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was 0.9 percent.

In October this year, annual inflation in the EU-28 fell in eight states, remained stable in three and increased in 16 states as compared with September (no data were provided for the UK). The lowest annual inflation rates were observed in Greece (-1.8%), Bulgaria (-1.5%), Hungary and Poland (both -0.3%) and Spain (-0.2%), while the highest were observed in Romania (1.8%), Austria (1.4%) and Finland (1.2%).
