Euro area annual inflation drops in October

Annual inflation in the euro area was 2.5 percent in October this year, down from 2.6 percent in September, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In October 2011, the annual inflation rate was 3.0 percent. Meanwhile, monthly inflation was 0.2 percent in October this year.                                  
Meanwhile, in the European Union annual inflation was 2.6 percent in October, down from 2.7 percent recorded in September. In the same month of the previous year, the annual inflation rate was registered as 3.4 percent, while monthly inflation was 0.3 percent in October this year.
 
In October, the lowest annual inflation rates in the European Union were observed in Greece with 0.9 percent, in Sweden with 1.2 percent and in Latvia with 1.6 percent, while the highest were seen in Hungary with 6.0 percent, in Romania with 5.0 percent and in Estonia with 4.2 percent. In October this year, annual inflation fell in 13 states, rose in 10 and remained stable in four states, compared with September 2012.

The lowest 12-month averages up to the end of September 2012 were registered in Sweden at 0.9 percent and in Greece with 1.4 percent and in Ireland with at 1.9 percent, while the highest were recorded in Hungary with 5.5 percent, in Estonia with 4.3 percent and in Poland with 4.0 percent.
