EU-27 monthly industrial output rises 0.3 percent in October over September

Seasonally-adjusted industrial production in the European Union member states (EU-27) in October this year rose 0.3 percent as compared to the previous month, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In September, according to revised data, industrial production in the region had slightly decreased by 0.3 percent over August.

On the other hand, compared with October 2009, industrial production in the EU-27 in October this year improved by 6.7 percent. October was the 10th consecutive month in which a year-on-year increase was recorded.

In October this year, production of durable consumer goods in the EU-27 remained stable as compared to the previous month and was up 2.7 percent year on year, while production of intermediate goods moved up by 0.2 percent in October compared to September and was up eight percent over the same month of the previous year. In addition, production of energy in the EU-27 declined by 0.2 percent month on month, while the year-on-year decrease was 0.4 percent.

Among the member states for which data are available, in October industrial production rose in 10 member states, fell in 11 other member states and and remained unchanged in Romania and the United Kingdom. all compared to September. The highest month-on-month increases were registered in Lithuania with 9.7 percent, Luxembourg with 6.4 percent, Estonia with 4.9 percent, and in Greece with 3.6 percent; meanwhile, the most significant declines were observed in Ireland with 4.8 percent, in Denmark with 2.8 percent, in Malta with 2.5 percent and in Portugal with 2.4 percent.
