EU-27 finished steel imports up 87 percent in Jan over Dec

In January this year, European Union (EU-27) flat steel imports reached 1.228 million metric tons, while the long steel imports of the region amounted to 262,000 metric tons, according to the European Steel Association EUROFER. Accordingly, overall EU finished steel imports in January totaled 1.489 million metric tons, up 87.29 percent month on month and rising by 36.6 percent compared to the same month of 2012. Both the overall and the flat rolled figures for January constituted the highest volumes recorded since August 2011.
