EU-27 construction output down 9.4 percent in February

According to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in February this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) decreased 3.7 percent as compared to January and was down by 9.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In January, production decreased 3.9 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.

Building construction in the EU-27 in February decreased by 2.9 percent month on month and was down 7.9 percent compared to February 2011, while civil engineering fell by 10.1 percent from January and was down by 15.9 percent as compared to the same month of 2011.

As compared to January, construction output in February increased in the UK by 5.7 percent and in Romania by 1.7 percent, while a decrease of 17.1 percent was registered in Germany, with a decrease of 10.3 percent in Slovenia and a 9.9 percent decline seen in Italy.
