EU-27 construction output down 6.6 percent in Apr from Mar

According to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in April this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) decreased 6.6 percent as compared to March and was down by 5.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In March, production increased 10.8 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in April decreased 2.7 percent month on month and was down by five percent compared to April 2011. In March, production increased 11.4 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.

Building construction in the EU-27 in April decreased by 7.3 percent month on month and was down 4.6 percent compared to April 2011, while civil engineering fell by 2.7 percent from March and was down by 8.6 percent as compared to the same month of 2011.

As compared to March, construction output in April increased in Romania by 11.5 percent, in France by 2.3 percent and in Poland by 1.9 percent, while a decrease of 18.1 percent was registered in the UK, with a decrease of 9.3 percent in Slovenia, a 6.7 percent decline was seen in Portugal, while a six percent decline was recorded in Germany.
