According to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in May this year the seasonally-adjusted
production of the
construction sector in the
European Union member states (EU-27) decreased by 0.9 percent as compared to April and was down one percent compared to May 2010. In April, the
production figure had decreased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.
In the EU, building
construction in May decreased by 1.3 percent month on month and was down by 2.5 percent compared to May 2010, while civil engineering fell by 0.2 percent over April and rose by 4.4 as compared to the same month last year.
As compared to April,
construction output in May increased in
Hungary by 6.5 percent, in
Poland by 3.7 percent and in
Romania by 2.9 percent, while month-on-month decreases of 9.8 percent, 2.3 percent and 1.3 percent respectively were registered in the
Slovenia,
Netherlands and
Slovakia.
