EU-27 commercial vehicle registrations up 10 percent in 2011

New commercial vehicle registrations across the EU in December 2011 amounted to 166,739 units, increasing by 7.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). Looking at new registrations in the major markets in the EU-27 region in December, Spain (-14.2 percent) is the only country recording a decline, while the UK (+13.4 percent), Germany (+16.3 percent) and France (+2.5 percent) indicated expansions.

In 2011, a total of 1,935,392 new commercial vehicles were registered in the EU-27, up 9.9 percent compared to 2010 but still lower by about 22.5 percent compared to the pre-crisis levels in 2007. Looking at new registrations in the major markets in the EU-27 region in 2011, Spain (-6.6 percent) was the only market to see a decline, while Germany (+18.7 percent), the UK (+17.6 percent) and France (+5.6 percent) recorded increases.

All markets in the EU-27 posted strong growth in the new heavy commercial vehicles market in 2011, leading to an overall year-on-year increase of 36 percent. 315,447 new trucks were registered in the EU-27 in 2011, or 29 percent more than in 2010.
