EU quota utilization levels of Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan

In the first two months of 2008, Russia utilized 12.5 percent of the steel quota allocated to it by the European Union (EU), while Ukraine utilized 9.5 percent of its EU quota. On the other hand, Kazakhstan utilized 3.2 percent of its allocation.

According to the latest statistics, Russia exported a total of 377,238 tons of steel products to the EU in the first two months of 2008. The quota allocated to Russia for 2008 is 3,031,000 tons.

Specifically, Russia used 15.8 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (163,539 of 1,035,090 allotted tons), 16.71 percent of its plate quota (45,953 of 275,000 allotted tons), 0.77 percent of its alloy sheet quota (805 of 105,000 allotted tons), and 6.73 percent of its wire rod quota (21,820 of 324,000 allotted tons).

With regard to Ukraine, it exported a total of 122,049 tons of steel products to the EU in the January-February 2008, filling 9.3 percent of its revised quota of 1,353,000 tons.

When the figures are broken down, we see that Ukraine filled 5.48 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (10,670 of 194,750 allotted tons), 14.88 percent of its heavy plate quota (59,480 of 399,750 allotted tons), 0.25 percent of its beam quota (130 of 51,250 allotted tons), and 5.82 percent of its wire rod quota (11,630 of 199,875 allotted tons).

Finally, Kazakhstan exported a total of 6,525 tons of steel products to the EU in the first two months of 2008, filling 3.2 percent of its total quota of 205,000 tons.

Specifically, Kazakhstan filled 4.8 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (4,185 of 87,125 allotted tons), and 1.99 percent of its quota for other flat rolled products (2,340 of 117,875 allotted tons).
