EU quota utilization levels of Russia and Kazakhstan

As of May 4, 2009, Russia utilized 17 percent of the steel quota allocated to it by the European Union (EU) for the current year, while Kazakhstan utilized zero percent of its allocated EU quota of 205,000 mt.

According to the latest statistics, Russia exported a total of 531,507 tons of steel products to the EU in the period in question. The quota allocated to Russia for 2009 is 3,106,775 tons.

Specifically, Russia used 26.6 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (281,909 of 1,060,875 allotted tons), 11.7 percent of its plate quota (32,968 of 281,875 allotted tons), 15.74 percent of its alloy sheet quota (16,944 of 107,625 allotted tons), and 13.24 percent of its wire rod quota (43,970 of 332,100 allotted tons).
