EU new car registrations up six percent in Jan-Aug

In the January-August period of the current year, new car registrations totaled 8,336,159 units in the European Union (EU), with an increase of six percent year on year, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). In August this year, EU new car registrations increased by 2.1 percent year on year to 669,395 units and were down 35.7 percent compared to July. 

In the first eight months of this year, the UK (+10.1 percent), Italy (+3.5 percent), France (+1.6 percent) and Germany (+2.6 percent) were the major EU markets which recorded increases in new car registrations on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, in August the UK posted year-on-year growth in its new car registrations, up 9.4 percent, while Italy, Germany and France indicated decreases of 0.2 percent, 0.4 percent and 2.6 percent respectively.
