In February this year, new car registrations totaled 924,440 units in the European Union (EU), with an increase of 7.3 percent year on year, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). Registrations in February increased for the 18th consecutive month on year-on-year basis.
In February, Spain (+26.1 percent), Italy (+13.2 percent), the UK (+12.0 percent), Germany (+6.6 percent) and France (+4.5 percent) were the major EU markets which recorded increases in new car registrations on year-on-year basis.
Meanwhile, in the January-February period new passenger car registrations increased to nearly 2 million units, up seven percent year on year. Most major markets posted growth and contributed to the overall upturn of the EU market. In this period, Spain and Italy saw increases of 26.7 percent and 12.3 percent, respectively, while the UK recorded a rise of 8.3 percent in registrations, and France and Germany indicated increases of 5.3 percent and 4.6 percent respectively, all year-on-year basis.
