EU new car registrations rise by 5.7 percent in 2014

In 2014, new car registrations totaled 12,550,771 units in the European Union (EU), with an increase of 5.7 percent year on year, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). In December 2014, EU new car registrations increased by 4.7 percent year on year to 951,329 units and were down 0.3 percent compared to November.

In 2014, Spain (+18.1 percent), the UK (+9.3 percent), Italy (+4.2 percent) and Germany (+2.9 percent) were the major EU markets which recorded increases in new car registrations on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, in December Spain posted year-on-year growth in its new car registrations, up 21.4 percent, with the UK and Germany indicating increases of 8.7 percent and 6.7 percent respectively, while new car registrations in France decreased by 6.7 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
