According to the European steel association EUROFER, in September this year European Union (EU-27) flat steel imports totaled 827,000 mt, while long steel imports amounted to 210,000 mt. Accordingly, overall EU steel imports in September totaled 1.037 million mt, up 2.87 percent month on month and down 29.16 percent compared to the same month 2011.
In September, long steel imports into the EU increased by almost 26 percent compared to August to 210,000 mt, while flat steel imports fell by 1.78 percent month on month to 827,000 mt, declining to the lowest monthly volume so far in the current year. A lower figure for September is dated 2005. The EU steel product import figures for September, the third quarter and the first nine months of the current year are indicated as follows:
