EU annual inflation up slightly in Oct from Sept level

Annual inflation in the European Union was 3.4 percent in October this year, up from a revised 3.3 percent in September, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In October 2010, the annual inflation rate was registered as 2.3 percent. Meanwhile, monthly inflation was 0.3 percent in October this year.

In October, the lowest annual inflation rates were observed in Sweden with 1.1 percent, in Ireland with 1.5 percent and in Malta  with 2.4 percent, while the highest were seen in the United Kingdom with five percent, in Estonia with 4.7 percent and in Slovakia with 4.6 percent.

The lowest 12-month averages up to the end of October were registered in Ireland at 0.8 percent, in Sweden at 1.6 percent and in the Czech Republic and Slovenia both at two percent, while the highest were recorded in Romania at 6.6 percent, in Estonia at 5.1 percent and in the United Kingdom with 4.3 percent.
