Essar Steel to build steel plant in Trinidad & Tobago

Indian steelmaker Essar Steel has received a nod from the Trinidad and Tobago government to build an integrated iron and steel plant in Caribbean. The projected plant, whose construction will start by July 2007, is worth approximately $1.76 billion. The plant, which is scheduled to come on stream by 2010, will be designed to have an annual production capacity of 2.5 million mts. The plant will primarily serve the US and the Caribbean markets.
