Essar Steel Minnesota plans to petition the Minnesota Legislature in 2015 in a bid to delay repayment of the $67 million subsidy the state granted Essar to build a new taconite plant in Nashwauk.

After meeting with state lawmakers, Essar indicated they would not be able to meet the October 2015 production deadline to start making taconite pellets, as well as steel at the still-under-construction facility that broke ground eight years ago.
