Erdemir's new plate mill to come on stream soon

Turkey's sole integrated flat steel producer Erdemir announced that its new plate mill, the construction of which has been continuing for a while, will come on stream as of August 15, 2006. The company has reduced the minimum thickness production limit for thick plates from 12 mm to 5 mm and increased the maximum width limit from 2,600 mm to 3,800 mm in the new plate mill. The new plate mill, which will serve various industries but particularly the shipbuilding and machinery industries with its wide range of products, will be able to operate with a maximum capacity of 500,000 ton per year for a one year as of 2007.
