Employment in Turkish construction sector down slightly in Q4

According to data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in the fourth quarter of 2012 the index of the number of hours worked in construction in Turkey decreased by 1.1 percent year on year. While the number of hours worked in civil engineering in the fourth quarter increased 0.7 percent year on year, the number of hours worked in construction of buildings fell by 2.6 percent.

Meanwhile, in the fourth quarter the employment index of the domestic construction industry decreased by 0.9 percent year on year. Employment in construction of buildings in the fourth quarter last year was down by 2.3 percent, while employment in civil engineering increased by 0.9 percent, compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
