Employment in EU-27 falls 0.1 percent in Q3

The number of persons employed in the European Union (EU-27) decreased by 0.1 percent in the third quarter of 2011 compared with the previous quarter, according to national accounts estimates published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In the second quarter of 2011, the seasonally adjusted employment rate increased by 0.1 percent quarter on quarter in the EU-27.

Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, employment fell by 0.1 percent in the EU-27 in the third quarter of 2011.

In the construction sector, a 0.4 percent decrease was recorded in the third quarter this year, while in the industry sector employment remained stable compared with the third quarter of 2010.
