In its monthly publication released on July 23, the European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries (EUROFER) has stated that on June 30 last the European Industrial Fasteners Institute (EIFI) filed antidumping and antisubsidy complaints with the European Commission (EC) against imports of stainless steel fasteners originating from India and Malaysia.

Commenting on the issue, EUROFER said, "Since 2006 imports from these two countries have increased dramatically and literally flooded the EU market in 2008, causing considerable injury to the European industries concerned. The complainants have strong indications that exports from India and Malaysia are dumped and subsidized."

"Regarding the importance of the EU fasteners industry as a downstream market for EU stainless steel wire rod producers, EUROFER and its members have given active support to the complaints," added EUROFER.
