The Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (CIB) has stated that Egypt's Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade last weekend declined Egyptian steel producers' request to launch another safeguard investigation against Turkish steel. The CIB statement also included a ministry official's comments on Turkish steel being exemplary in terms of positive price competition as well as quality criteria.

In November 2012, Egypt imposed a temporary 6.8 percent import duty on Turkish steel, while the relevant investigation was terminated in November 2013 without any safeguard measures being imposed.
