The European Commission (EC) proposed antidumping (AD) duties over the Brazilian exports of HRC should not affect local flats steelmaker Usiminas, a top executive said.

Usiminas CEO Sergio Leite said the duties wouldn’t affect Usiminas’ exports of flats to Europe, which are primarily HRC. The executive said about 55 percent of the company’s exports go to Europe.

“In case there’s an AD duty over the Brazilian exports of HRC to Europe, the impact it would have on our exports would be null,” Leite said.

SteelOrbis has heard recently that the European Commission (EC) has proposed to impose final antidumping (AD) duties on certain hot rolled (HR) flat products of iron, nonalloy or other alloy steel imported from Brazil, Iran, Russia and Ukraine and has proposed to exclude Serbia from the investigation because the dumping margin of the country is negligible.

The commission has not published its official decision yet. Accordingly, the proposed final AD duties range between 5.3 percent and 33 percent for the mentioned imports from Brazil, Iran, Russia and Ukraine. The products subject to investigation currently fall within CN codes 7208 10 00, 7208 25 00, 7208 26 00, 7208 27 00, 7208 36 00, 7208 37 00, 7208 38 00, 7208 39 00, 7208 40 00, 7208 52 99, 7208 53 90, 7208 54 00, 7211 14 00, 7211 19 00, 7225 19 10, 7225 30 10, 7225 30 30, 7225 30 90, 7225 40 12, 7225 40 15, ex 7225 40 60, 7225 40 90, 7226 19 10, ex 7226 20 00, 7226 91 20, 7226 91 91 and 7226 91 99.
