Domestic steel production up

According to data released this week by the American Iron and Steel Institute, US steel production during the week ended January 7, 2006 increased 2.2 percent from the previous week. Total tonnage produced the week ended January 7 was 2'064'000 tons, compared to 2'020'000 tons produced the week ended December 31, 2005. Raw steel produced the week ended January 7 was also 0.6 percent higher than the 2'051'000 tons produced during the same week of 2005. The following are production figures, separated by region:
