CVRD sees ample opportunity in Japan

Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) says it will boost iron shipments to Japan next year. The largest iron ore producer in the world, CVRD says it expects to increase its exports to Japan from the 27 million tons already earmarked for this year. CVRD did not mention what kind of price point they expect to negotiate but they have already managed to push through a 71.5 percent increase this year with major Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel Corp. and JFE Holdings Inc. CVRD expects to increase its annual output to 300 million tons by 2007 and between 2005 and 2015 will export around 275 million tons to Japan.
