Brazil steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacionall (CSN) is expected to restart on October 15 a blast furnace at its Presidente Vargas mill located in the city of Volta Redonda, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, according to a media report.

The company’s No. 2 blast furnace has been idled since January this year and was expected to be idled for just 90 days. Since there were no positive signs of recovery in the domestic market, CSN extended the halt in production for most of H1.

CSN’s No. 2 blast furnace accounts for about 30 percent of CSN’s total capacity of 5.6 million mt/year.
