Continuation of iron ore exports requested in India

Although the iron and steel industry in India wants ban on iron ore exports, the mining industry reportedly demanded that the government continue iron ore exports. By submitting a letter to the Prime Minister, the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) requested continuation of iron ore exports for at least 10 more years. The FIMI claimed that disruption of the current mechanism will lead not only to gradual demise of stand-alone non-captive miners, but also unemployment of one million workers engaged directly or indirectly in mining operations. Moreover, the FIMI asserted that a restriction on iron ore exports will cause loss in the revenues of state governments.
