Colombian iron and steel exports down 2.4 percent in January-May

In the January-May period of this year, Colombia exported 35,796 mt of ferronickel, down 33.9 percent, with a value of $112.98 million, decreasing by 9.5 percent, both year on year, as announced by the Colombian National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE). In May this year, the country's ferronickel exports amounted to 19,861 mt, rising by 52.9 percent, while the revenue from these exports was $62.51 million, up 101.2 percent, both compared to May 2016.

In the first five months of this year, Colombia's iron and steel export volume totaled 71,014 mt, down 2.4 percent, with a value of $161.07 million, rising by 8.3 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In May, Colombian iron and steel exports amounted to 26,594 mt, increasing by 49.1 percent, and were worth $71.6 million, up 93.9 percent, both compared to the same month of 2016.
