Turkey-based steel mill Colakoglu Metalurji A.S. has completed the long-awaited sale of its rod mill located at the company's plant at Dilovasi, in the northwestern Turkish province of Kocaeli.
The mill, which has been producing 5.5-12 mm rods since 1985, has been sold to a partnership including Demirsan, which will move it to Morocco and reinstall it there. The partnership including Demirsan - a company which exports especially to the North African and the Middle Eastern markets - had previously bought Colakoglu's electric arc furnace, also with the aim of reinstalling it in Morocco. It is expected that the reconstruction of the rod mill in Morocco will be completed in the first half of 2008.
Colakoglu Metalurji A.S., which has been leading the industry in Turkey in long products and steelmaking for almost 40 years, has completed its new meltshop and slab caster investments and started slab production. The company is also expected to start producing hot rolled coil in two years' time after completing its hot strip mill investment.
Demirsan, which has been operating in the steel industry for 30 years, is one of the major rebar and profile producers in Turkey. The company has been attracting attention in recent times with its investments in Morocco.
