SteelOrbis Shanghai On January 31, the Shanxi Coke Industry Association decided to raise coke prices for February by RMB 50/mt ($6) compared to the January level. This price hike is closely related to progress in connection with the new environmental measures. Shanxi Province's Environmental Protection Administration announced at a press conference held on January 30 that the 117 coking enterprises blacklisted for reasons of heavy pollution are to be refused electricity supply, loans and transportation, and will face compulsory shutdown. With a view to the implementation of the said measures, the province's Environmental Protection Administration has already informed the relevant electricity authorities, banks, and railway and highway authorities of the names of the 117 enterprises on the first list to be issued. These anti-pollution measures will inevitably drive China's coke prices up further.
