Coke export of Jiangsu port quadruples

Coke export at Jiangsu port of China totaled 649'000 tons during January-April 2005, with 132 million US dollars in trade value, up 4.1 folds and 2.9 folds against that of the same period in 2004. Coke exports through Jiangsu port are mainly headed for the US, Japan and Canada, with the quantity reaching 205'000 tons of coke to the US, 148'000 tons to Japan and 93'000 tons to Canada for April 2005 respectively. Spokenly, China Ministry of Commerce delivered coke export quota for 2005 to 48 enterprises in the Chinese domestic market at the end of 2004, which is 4 months earlier than the coke quota delivery for 2004. Besides the influence from the early delivery of coke export quota, steel industry's fast development in international market has been another factor pushing coke exports increase. Based on the prediction from CISA economy research committee, global steel output will exceed 900 million tons in 2005, up 4.5% against that of 2004, which will stimulate the major global steel producers to purchase coke from China.
