Coal shipments by China’s railways down 1.3 percent in 2014

China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has announced that in December last year coal shipments by Chinese railways amounted to 190 million mt, down 9.3 percent year on year, while in the whole of 2014 shipments totaled 2.29 billion mt, down 1.3 percent year on year.
In 2014, the railway line from Datong, Shanxi Province to Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province transported 450 million mt of coal, up 1.1 percent, while the railway line from Houma, Shanxi to Yueshan, Henan transported 190 million mt of coal, up 0.8 percent, both year on year.

Meanwhile, according to China’s customs, in 2014 China imported 290 million mt of coal, down 10.9 percent year on year, while it exported 5.74 million mt of coal in the same period, declining by 23.5 percent year on year.
