Coal exports from PWCS down 3.5 percent in Oct from Sept

Coal exports from the Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) terminals based at Port of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, totaled 9.3 million mt in October, falling by 3.5 percent compared to September, according to the company's announcement. 12 percent of the total coal handled at the terminals was coking coal.

In the first 10 months of the year, coking coal exports constituted 13 percent of total coal exports of 88.2 million mt from PWCS, with the overall volume up 9.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to the released information, Japan was the largest export destination for coal shipments from PWCS in the first 10 months of the year, with shipments constituting 53.8 percent of the total shipments, while coal exports to China made up 17.7 percent of the total.
