In the week ended December 2, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 3.49 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes an increase of 54.07 percent compared to the previous week ended November 25, in which a week-on-week decrease of 22.62 percent in coal shipments had been observed.
In the November 1-30 period, Newcastle port exported 11.99 million mt of thermal and coking coal. The port authority has forecast that Newcastle port will ship a total of 12.89 million mt for the whole of December.
Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
