In the week ended August 24, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 3.03 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes a 44.5 increase compared to the previous week.
In the period from August 1 to August 26, Newcastle port exported 8.9 million mt of thermal and coking coal, while the port authority has forecast that Newcastle port will ship a total of 10.1 million mt for the whole of August.
Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
