In the week ended July 1, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of
Australia, totaled 2.3 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes a decrease of 24.8 percent compared to the previous week ended June 24, in which a week-on-week increase of 19 percent in coal shipments had been observed.
In June, Newcastle port exported almost 12 million mt of thermal and
coking coal, while the port authority forecasts that Newcastle port will ship a total of 12.3 million mt for the whole of July, the same volume as recorded in July last year.
Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
