Coal exports from Australia’s Newcastle port decline

In the week ended October 8, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 2.4 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes a 20 percent decrease compared to the previous week, following a week-on-week increase of 18.7 percent recorded in the week ended October 1.

The port authority has forecast that Newcastle port will ship a total of 12 million mt for the whole of October.

Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
