Coal exports fell at Rizhao Port

The statistics from China's Shandong Customs indicate that coal export in Rizhao Port of Shandong province decreased 22.7% year on year to 3.56 million tons through January – May 2005, while the value of the exports increased 18.4% and reached $223 million. With 2.86 million tons and 530'000 tons respectively, Japan and Korea were the main countries that received coal shipped from Shandong Port. The main reason for the fall in coal exports is Chinese government's tightening its macro-control policy on coal resources. The government also took a series of measures such as management on coal export quota, cancellation of coke export rebate, reduction of power coal export rebate rate and tax collection on port construction one after another. The above measures brought down the amount of coal exported. The decreasing export quantity led to an increase in the export price of the coal.
