Texas-headquartered Commercial Metals Company (CMC) has announced that its Polish subisidiary in Zawiercie, Poland (CMCZ) is to build a new rolling mill worth about $170 million.

The planned rolling mill, which will have an annual production capacity of 650,000 tons of rebar, merchant bar and wire rod, is primarily designed to function as a complementary facility for the existing mini-mill that produces rebar.

The new mill, which will allow efficient and flexible production of an increased medium section product range, is foreseen to be put into operation during the summer of 2009. It will thus take its place beside CMCZ's existing rolling mill, as well as the previously announced wire rod block which is currently being installed.
