At a conference held on September 9, Luo Bingsheng, the vice president of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) said that further efforts by the regional governments are necessary to achieve the targets of the energy saving and emission reduction program.

According to the figures released by CISA, in the January-July period, the domestic large- and medium-sized steel enterprises have reduced their comprehensive energy consumption for per ton of steel by 2.43 percent year-on-year basis. However, due to the significant increase of steel production in the first seven months, the total energy consumption in the Chinese steel sector has risen by 11.55 percent compared with the same period of last year.
