CISA: China composite steel price index decreases during April

According to the data released by the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), as of the end of April (April 30) this year the composite steel price index (CSPI) for the Chinese domestic market was at 92.64 points, down 9.17 points or 9.01 percent month on month, while increasing by 7.98 points or 9.43 percent on year-on-year basis.

At the end of April, the CSPI long steel index was at 98.48 points, down 8.74 points or 8.15 percent month on month and increasing by 12.46 points or 14.49 percent year on year, while the CSPI flat steel index stood at 88.97 points, down 10.12 points or 10.21 percent month on month and increasing by 2.45 points or 2.83 percent year on year.

As of the end of April this year, among the eight main steel products monitored by the CISA, prices of wire rod, rebar, angles, cold rolled sheet (CRS), medium plate, hot rolled coil (HRC), hot dip galvanized (HDG) and seamless pipe decreased by RMB 301/mt ($43.81/mt), RMB 288/mt ($41.92/mt), RMB 319/mt ($46.43/mt), RMB 468/mt ($68.12/mt), RMB 400/mt ($58.22/mt), RMB 405/mt ($58.95/mt), RMB 313/mt ($45.56/mt) and RMB 214/mt ($31.15/mt), respectively, all compared to price levels at the end of March of the current year.
