Chongqing Steel posts 33 percent rise in net profit for 2008

According to the 2008 annual report issued by Chinese steelmaker Chongqing Steel, the company registered sales revenues of RMB 16.517 billion ($2.42 billion) for the year in question, up 36.98 percent year on year; meanwhile its net profit in 2008 reached RMB 598 million ($88 million), up 33.18 percent compared with the previous year.

In 2008, Chongqing Steel produced 1.3671 million mt of coke and 2.9249 million mt of pig iron, down 0.22 percent and 0.87 percent respectively year on year; furthermore, the producer's outputs of crude steel and finished steel in 2008 totaled 3.3576 million mt and 3.2123 million mt, up 0.21 percent and 3.04 percent respectively.
