Chongqing eliminates 5.17 million mt of steel capacity in 2016

The municipal government of Chongqing in China has stated that it eliminated 5.17 million mt of steelmaking capacity and 20.84 million mt of coal capacity in 2016. The capacity elimination has been examined and confirmed by local government. “We will firmly prevent the revival of already eliminated excess capacity and forbid any new steel projects,” the Chongqing government stated.
