China's overall electricity consumption in July this year increased by 11.8 percent year on year, but decreased by 1.2 percent month on month, according to a report released by China Electricity Council (CEC) on August 17. The report noted that abundant rainfall in eastern, central and northern China in July meant that power supply shortages during the month in question were less serious than expected.

The CEC report also indicated that overall industrial power consumption in China in July increased by 11.8 percent year on year, with consumption in light industry increasing by 8.19 percent, and heavy industry consumption up by 12.53 percent.
