Chinese industrial enterprises’ gross profits up 10% in Jan-Apr

In the January-April period of the current year, the aggregate gross profits of large and medium-sized industrial enterprises in China amounted to RMB 1.76287 trillion ($0.288 trillion), increasing by 10.0 percent year on year, according to data released by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on May 28, with the increase rate in question 0.3 percentage points lower than that recorded in the January-March period of the current year. In April alone, the aggregate gross profits of large and medium-sized industrial enterprises in China amounted to RMB 468.63 billion ($76.45 billion), increasing by 9.6 percent compared to April 2013, with the increase rate in question 1.1 percentage points lower than that recorded in March this year.

Of the 41 major industrial sectors in China, in the January-April period this year 30 sectors registered year-on-year increases in gross profit,10 sectors witnessed year-on-year decreases in gross profit, while one sector saw an unchanged gross profit compared to that recorded in the same period of 2013.

In particular, in the January-April period, the aggregate gross profit of the ferrous metal mining industry in China was RMB 22.3 billion ($3.64 billion), decreasing by 1.2 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the aggregate gross profit of the ferrous metal smelting and processing industry in China was RMB 27.71 billion ($4.52 billion) in the given period, decreasing by 11.3 percent year on year. The aggregate gross profit of the metal product manufacturing sector in China in the January-April period this year was RMB 48.43 billion ($7.9 billion), increasing by 14 percent year on year. In addition, in the given period, the total gross profit of China's automobile manufacturing sector amounted to RMB 184.93 billion ($30.17 billion), indicating a year-on-year increase of 28.7 percent, while the total gross profit of the country's railway, ship, aerospace and transportation machinery and equipment manufacturing sector increased by 21.4 percent year on year to RMB 22.39 billion ($3.65 billion).
