Chinese foreign trade maintains steady growth

According to the statistics issued by Chinese customs, the country's foreign trade totaled $801.34 billion for the first five months of this year, up 23.7 percent year on year. Of this figure, exports accounted for $443.53 billion, up 27.8 percent, while imports covered $357.81 billion, up 19.1 percent.

China's total foreign trade volume for May reached $165.65 billion, up 24.4 percent year on year. Exports for the month stood at $94.05 billion, up 28.7 percent, while imports reached $71.6 billion, up 19.1 percent.

In terms of China's trading volume from January to May, the EU is China's biggest partner, with bilateral trade rising 29 percent to $129.87 billion. The US is China's second biggest partner with total trade up 18.2 percent to $115.17 billion. Meanwhile, Japan was the third biggest partner with $91.24 billion in bilateral trade with China. ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries maintained their position as China's fourth most important trading partner, with total bilateral trade volume increasing 27.5 percent to $75.29 billion.
