Chinese crude steel production ups month on month in August
SteelOrbis Shanghai In August 2006, Chinese pig iron, crude steel and finished steel output continued its robust growth, but the year-on-year growth of crude steel decreased 5.2 percent compared with July. In August, China produced 34.7807 million mt of pig iron, up 20.8 percent year on year, with average daily production of 1.1196 million mt, up 0.2 percent month on month; the crude steel production totaled 36.7002 million mt, up 17 percent year on year, with average daily production of 1.1838 million mt, up 1.69 percent month on month; the finished steel output amounted to 38.9648 million mt, up 16.6 percent year on year, with average daily production of 1.2569 million mt, up 0.79 percent month on month. From January to August, cumulative pig iron production increased 20.9 percent compared with last year to 262.6397 million mt; that of crude steel rose 18.6 percent to 272.5063 million mt; and that of finished steel totaled 298.9575 million mt, up 23.7 percent year on year. On a product basis, rebar production for August totaled 6.8426 million mt, up 7.9 percent year on year, with average daily production of 220,700 mt, up 0.66 percent month on month. Wire rod production increased 20.5 percent year on year to 6.2791 million mt, with 202,600 mt of daily output, up 0.43 percent month on month. Medium plate production totaled 1.9393 million mt, up 18.2 percent year on year, while the daily production increased 0.22 percent from July to 62,500 mt. HR sheet production totaled 5.7279 million mt, up 17.64 percent year on year, with average daily production of 184,800 mt, up 0.33 percent month on month. CR sheet production amounted to 2.2465 million mt, up 36.21 percent year on year, with average daily production of 72,500 mt, up 4.4 percent from July.
