Chinese coal prices remain stable in April

According to the latest data issued by China's National Development and Reform Commission, in April coal prices remained more or less stable on the whole in the Chinese domestic market.

In April, the average price of steam coal stood at RMB 525/mt ($77/mt) in the main Chinese coal producing regions, down just 0.64 percent month on month. Meanwhile, the average price of coking coal in April was up 0.31 percent month on month to RMB 965/mt ($142/mt). In addition, the average coke price in the regions in question was RMB 1,565/mt ($230/mt) in April, increasing by 0.89 percent from March. All prices are ex-mine. At China's largest coal shipping port of Qinghuangdao, the price of steam coal was RMB 640/mt ($94/mt) in the month in question, up slightly by 0.46 percent compared with March.
