Chinese auto production, sales beat record

SteelOrbis Shanghai According to China Automobile Association, Chinese automobile production and sales in March reached a new record level, and totaled 1.7 million vehicles in the first quarter. Major domestic sedan producers' price reductions, new model and small car promotions, as well as the adjustment in consumption tax have greatly stimulated consumers' purchasing desire since the beginning of 2006. The association's data show that in March, China produced 732,800 vehicles, up 38.76 percent month on month and 28.52 percent year on year. Meanwhile 721,500 vehicles have been sold in March, up 50.31 percent from a month earlier and 23.92 percent from a year earlier. Broken down into specific details, China produced 499,700 passenger cars and sold 486,000, up 41.84 percent and 36.72 percent year on year respectively. The country produced 233,100 commercial vehicles and sold 235,500 units, up 6.99 percent and 3.86 percent year on year.
